Block Board – IS: 1659

These are made out of excellent quality of plantation timbers. Logs are quarter sawn into planks using SDR method, which are chemically treated and well seasoned before converting into battens in a multiple ripsaw, battens are sandwiched between two glued mechanically dried veneers and pressed in hot press under accurate temperature and pressure. Quarter sawing of logs and proper seasoning of glue line and preservative treatment of finished block board make Ogaan durable and safe against borers.

Block board (also known as lumber core) is a man-made board similar to plywood but, in this type of board, the centre layer or core is made from strips of softwood. The strips are put edge to edge and sandwiched between veneers of softwood, hardwood, particleboard or MDF (medium-density fibreboard), pasted under high pressure and heat with glue. Block boards are used in the construction of railway carriages, bus bodies, and marine and river crafts and for furniture making, partitions, panelling, prefabricated houses, etc.

Ogaan Block board is the most preferred choice when lengthy pieces of wood are required for furniture making as it is stiffer and does not bends or sags like plywood, like long book shelves, tables and benches, lengthy wall panels, wardrobes, doors, sliding, etc. Also it is light in weight, making it easy to transport and install, and hence it is the topmost choice for making exterior and interior doors.
